The opening of the Chicago boutique conveys two clear messages from A. Lange & Söhne. First, it underscores the brand’s recognition of the U.S. Midwest as a market of strategic importance. Second, through a space designed to evoke the spirit of Glashütte, the maison affirms that its rare, hand‑crafted timepieces can only be truly appreciated through direct, in‑person experience.
Tribune Tower, one of Chicago’s most iconic historic landmarks, has been chosen as the site of A. Lange & Söhne’s ninth U.S. boutique. The move reflects a deliberate step in the brand’s global retail strategy, aimed at a region with a long‑standing tradition of watch collecting. Chicago is already a vibrant market, home to many seasoned collectors familiar with the brand. As such, the new boutique is intended less as a way to broaden reach to new audiences, and more as a means of strengthening ties with the city’s established community of watch connoisseurs.

The Chicago boutique spans 131 square meters and was conceived to encourage a slower, more deliberate pace of discovery which is true to the spirit of appreciation A. Lange & Söhne seeks to inspire. The space includes three reception areas, two of them private lounges, offering collectors the chance to converse, examine pieces closely, and experience the watches directly. Dedicated displays invite guests to explore the brand’s core values, from the mechanical theater of the ZEITWERK to the artistry of tourbillon construction and the meticulous hand‑finishing applied to every movement.

CEO Wilhelm Schmid emphasized: “Every Lange timepiece serves as a bridge between the watchmaker and the collector - a connection that can only be fully appreciated when held and worn directly. Our boutiques are designed to share the brand’s story and to convey the craftsmanship and imagination of Glashütte’s artisans in every detail.”
Like the brand’s other locations worldwide, the Chicago boutique embraces a minimalist aesthetic, with carefully balanced materials and lighting that highlight the watches rather than compete with them. Its setting inside Tribune Tower adds symbolic resonance: completed in 1925 as the headquarters of the Pulitzer Prize‑winning Chicago Tribune, the building’s façade incorporates nearly 150 fragments of historic architecture from around the globe, including a piece of the Berlin Wall installed in 1990 - the same year Walter Lange revived the brand after German reunification.

Charles Langlois, President of A. Lange & Söhne Americas, noted: “We are proud to call Tribune Tower our new home in Chicago. This marks an important milestone in our retail network across the Americas. Chicago is a leading destination for watch collectors, and we look forward to welcoming them to explore the brand’s enduring commitment to precision, tradition, and timeless beauty.”
The opening reflects A. Lange & Söhne’s selective approach to expansion, prioritizing meaningful engagement with each market over sheer numbers. Recent boutiques in London, Singapore, and Shanghai illustrate this strategy of deep connection. At a time when the luxury industry is reassessing the role of traditional retail, Lange reaffirms the value of boutiques as spaces where its watches can be experienced in the spirit of their original craftsmanship.
