Chopard José Carreras Wiener Staatsoper 12/1236 - Neo Vintage
Chopard José Carreras Wiener Staatsoper 12/1236 - Neo Vintage In the 1980s, José Carreras was an opera legend and one of "The Three Tenors." In 1987, he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. However, with an extraordinary will to live, he miraculously triumphed over death. Because of this, the very next year, he officially founded the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation. The purpose was to fund medical research to find the optimal treatments, while providing maximum support to patients battling this life-threatening disease. Deeply moved by the ideals of his artist friend, starting in July 1996, the president of Chopard (Karl-Friedrich Scheufele) and José Carreras embarked on a grand project: crafting a series of five limited-edition watch collections. The ultimate goal of this project was not commercial profit, but fundraising. Each limited series sold was expected to generate approximately 250,000 CHF, contributing directly to the tenor's Leukaemia Foundation. This project gave birth to exquisite timepieces, with each edition honoring a prestigious opera house that had witnessed the legendary performances of José Carreras. The reference Ref. 16/1236 debuted first in two versions: yellow gold and white gold (limited to just 250 pieces each). This timepiece pays tribute to the Vienna State Opera in Austria (Wiener Staatsoper)—one of the world's oldest and most majestic cultural institutions. This is not merely a watch, but a legacy carrying forward a profoundly meaningful and humane story about the legendary tenor José Carreras.
