In 1999, A. Lange & Söhne stunned the entire watchmaking world with the launch of the Datograph collection — short for Dat(e) + (Chron)ograph — one of the first in-house flyback chronograph wristwatches to appear after the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s and 1980s. The legendary Philippe Dufour once declared: “The Datograph is the best watch ever made.” At the SIHH 2016, he also shared that the Datograph was the first and only “neutral” watch he ever purchased for himself. (Philippe Dufour is a Swiss watchmaker from Le Sentier, Vallée de Joux, widely regarded as one of the greatest living masters of modern horology.) The first-generation Datograph was produced from 1999 to 2012, in five versions: 403.035 – Platinum case, black dial 403.032 – Pink gold case, silver dial 403.031 – Pink gold case, black dial (also known as the “Dufourgraph”) 403.025 – Platinum case, silver dial 403.041 – Yellow gold case, black dial
